Memories

First | The Pure Land | Unlocked Day 1 (8/24/2013)

At the end of a large forest of fungi, there is an open field and the bluest sky she's ever seen. There are trees in the distance, as well as pools of water and birds she does not recognize. This land is pure. She has the feeling that she has been searching for it for a long time, and that she has endured much to get here.

She has two companions with her, neither of whom she knows or recognizes. One is a young man who seems about her age, and the other is a naked and shriveled old man. The old man is scared for a while, but he begins to explore the field in time. He sees birds, and, like a child, he tries to chase them. He runs and runs, and he looks back, seeming to her then the happiest she remembers seeing someone. He disappears into the distance along with the birds. She's not sure where he's going, but she knows that he has found peace here.

The world is beginning to be reborn, she thinks, but she does not know what that means. Being in this pure land fills her with hope, with a great sense of peace and happiness, and something inside her wants desperately to stay in this place too. For some reason, though, she knows she can't. She doesn't belong here. Something pulls her back to the forest, to whatever lies outside, and she leaves paradise with her remaining companion.

Second | The Sea of Corruption | Unlocked Day 3 (9/2/2013)

Regained through a deal with Nancy, the giant spider who watches over the eighth wing of the library.

Leading to the pure land is a forest of fungi, vast and poisonous. It releases a miasma that is toxic to everything but the giant insects that live within it. Humans can wear masks to shield themselves from the poison, but a minute without a mask will kill a grown man. Even when humans wear masks, the forest is killing them. Children die young, and populations decline rapidly. The forest covers the earth, and it is growing more and more every year, swallowing the habitable land. Soon, there will be no longer be anywhere for humanity to live.

She knows, though, that the forest is not life's enemy. The pure land she remembers is proof of this. At the bottom of the forest, beneath its active layer, is its petrified layer. Here, there is no miasma, no insects, no pollution. Eventually, the active layer becomes the petrified layer, and the petrified layer turns to sand. After the petrified layer, the pure land is born. The pure land is not only free of pollution, but habitable, providing a future for life. This process takes place over thousands of years, slowly purifying the world. The forest is not destroying the earth; it is saving it.

Third | The Preacher | Unlocked Day 6 (9/13/2013)

Regained through the Sleeping Beauties vine event.

She stands atop a bloody rock in front of an enormous crowd of people. She doesn't know these people, but she can see a mixture of fear and hope in their eyes. There are airships settled behind the crowd, and soldiers as well. They feel hostile, but they do not move.

There's a young boy beside her, holding her hand. He carries a faint sense of familiarity about him, but she doesn't know who he is either.

With the boy's help, she speaks to the crowd, tells them of peace and hope. It's part preaching, part pleading. The words themselves are foggy, just beyond her reach, except for one phrase: "Choose love over hatred." Something great rests on this moment, on her success or failure to convince this crowd. As she pauses to let the words soak in, the memory ends.

Fourth | The Soldier | Unlocked Day 11 (10/6/2013)

She's standing in a dirt field and she charges, broadsword in her hands, toward a large, armored enemy. She knows he's an enemy; he's done something unforgivable. They all have.

He swings his axe, and she digs her sword into the dirt to block it. She dodges his next blow by leaping into the air and leaving her sword behind. While in the air, she unsheathes the small blade she has tucked behind her back, and she rams it down into the opening in the man's neck armor. As she leaps back onto the ground to strike again, the memory fades. Despite that, she knows what that stabbing blow did. She's killed a man.

Character Relationships

Brimstone (aka Zoe Washburne)

She considers Brimstone a reliable ally, as well as a friend. She's enjoyed the conversations they've had, and has adopted Brimstone's name for her, Angel. She first met Brimstone in the inner gardens, and since then they've explored and discovered things together. Angel disagrees with Brimstone when it comes to her views on killing, but she still admires her and enjoys her company a lot. They're both in the same boat when it comes to their feelings on the Keeper and their life in the house, so Angel hopes that they'll be able to work together to discover even more things. Maybe they can even get out of this house. All in all, Angel likes Brimstone a lot and thinks she is pretty dang cool.

Fire Man (aka The Signless)
{Homestuck}
fireband

Mostly, she's concerned about him. He seems to have led a difficult life, and from what she's seen, its effects on him have been very negative. She's tried to help him, with limited results, but she's not giving up. She knows she can't help solve all of his problems, or maybe any of them, but at the very least she wants to be a kind and supportive presence in his life. She hopes he is ultimately able to find some sort of happiness away from those who hurt him.

Crab Guy (aka Karkat Vantas)
{Homestuck}
crabhammer

Angel has not yet formed a solid opinion of the crab. He seems to be much different in temperament than he was when under the effects of the yellow flowers, though she believes he's not a mean person. Just gruff. Very gruff. She finds his choice in words to be quite funny, and his desire for organization to be quite useful. His concern for the hearth sits well with her, and because of that she suspects he might have a softer side. Only time will tell what secrets lie beneath the carapace. It's a very nice carapace.

Fish Girl (aka Feferi Peixes)
{Homestuck}
chromaticscale

Though they haven't talked as much as she would like, Angel finds her very pleasant to be around. She admires her sense of adventure and her curiosity. Despite not getting results during their trek to find the roof, Angel had a great time and would love to explore with the fish girl again.

Squawky Man (aka Ankh)
{Kamen Rider OOO}
armedanddangerous

Oh boy. This guy. Angel can't say she's too fond of him. She first met him while he was smashing furniture for some reason she still hasn't discovered. She was prepared for it to be a misunderstanding, somehow, but his attitude immediately put her off. She feels a lot of remorse for flipping out and throwing a lamp at him, and she wants to apologize at some point. Considering what kind of response she knows she'll get, though, she's trying to put it off for as long as she can.

Big Nose (aka Luther Levy)
{Family Man}
ovidscholar

The librarian has endeared himself to Angel rather quickly. He's charming, interesting, and has a good feeling about him. She finds his knowledge of things impressive, especially on matters of theology. He was a great help to her when she was looking for readable books, and she admires his organizational system. When she gets the chance, she wants to speak with him again.

Monster Book (aka Reiko Natsume)
{Natsume Yuujinchou}
creased

She's met the book girl twice now: the first time, while searching with Brimstone, though the two didn't really speak, and the second time, while searching for readable books in the library. Then, they did speak, and the book girl was a great help to Angel as well as pleasant company. Confident that they have similar feelings about their situation, Angel counts her as an ally.

Rock Man (aka Jeff Levitt)
{Original Character}
grotesqueobserver

The gargoyle is very nice to be around, as Angel learned during her search in the library. He seems to have a great joy for the written word, and he's helpful and kind. Together, they found a book that was entirely readable to him and only partially readable to her. Her impression of him is good, and she hopes to encounter him again, perhaps to solve the mystery of their book discovery.
